What is the typical time frame?

The approximate time frame from application to bringing your child home is 10 to 20 months.

There are a variety of roadblocks that can cause a delay in the process.

Travel To Ukraine

Most adoptions include three trips to Ukraine

Trip 1, is typically 2 to 3 weeks. The family will make travel arrangements once they receive an appointment to the Ministry for Social Policy in Ukraine to review the children who are currently available for adoption. After the appointment, the family will have a chance to travel to the orphanage where the child they selected resides. The family will be able to meet and spend time with the child(ren) before traveling home.

Trip 2, is typically shorter, anywhere from a couple of days to a week. The family will make travel arrangements once they receive the court hearing appointment. After the appointment, the family will travel home and wait the 30 days.

Trip 3, is typically between 2 to 4 weeks. The third trip will include: obtaining the child's birth certificate, passport, medical, and embassy appointment.

Time-frame

The time-frame may lengthen while you are in process..

The process outlined above reflects the timeline that families have experienced. It is important to understand that your adoption journey may be slightly different. Family Connections, Inc. and our Ukrainian Supervised Foreign Service Providers (SFSP) will work with your family to determine the best option for your family, related to travel. Your Ukrainian SFSP will arrange for your local travel, accommodations, and visits to the orphanage. You will be met at the airport and accompanied at all times by your SFSP. Family Connections, Inc.  will provided you with traveling prep as well as help or instruction once you are in Ukraine.

When You Return Home

Family Connections, Inc. as your Primary Provider, will continue to provide you with ongoing support to assist your family with the transition home. We also require that your home study agency complete two post adoption reports, to offer another layer of support to your family.

The prospective adoptive parents must commit, in writing, to register their child(ren) with the Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate in the U.S. within one month of the completion of the adoption. Ukraine also requires the adoptive parents to provide information about the adopted child's educational progress & living conditions to the Ukrainian consular office annually, until the child's 18th birthday.

Family Connections, Inc. will also provide you with information on how to finalize your child's adoption in the U.S.
