domestic adoptionLast in the series we will explore creating an effective adoption profile video.  Another way to reach birth parents is to create on online video or dvd that your agency can show to potential birth parents.  This can easily be done through the many different media programs available today.  You can hire someone to produce a video or shoot the video yourself.  This form of profile can be very inviting to birth parents as they can see your personality come to life and get to know you even before meeting you in person.  In the domestic adoption process an adoption video could very well be the best way to make a match with a birth mother or birth father.  This video could be the key to your success to creating your family through adoption.

Here are some tips to creating a successful adoption profile video:

  • You want your video to draw people in, to bring them into your life and see what you have to offer a child.

  • Keep your video real, let it showcase who you are, what you believe in and what is important to you in family life.

  • Speak clearly, in a tone that is warm and inviting, be relaxed and comfortable, be yourself.

  • Your adoption profile video may be the one connection you make with the potential birth parents.  You want them to see and get to know your family and life in a real and heartwarming way so that they can envision their birth child in your family.

  • Be fun and creative, if your favorite past time is playing soccer or gardening, show that in your video.  Have fun and be active, it will show potential birth parents your true personalities and what you enjoy in life.

  • Keep your video short around three to five minutes.  You want to give the viewer a glimpse of your life and keep them engaged.  You want them to learn about you and want to know more.

  • Keep captions for photos short and easy to read. Choose photos carefully, up close photos and casual photos can help you appear more approachable.

  • Use background music that shows who you are.  Avoid using music that distracts from your story or takes attention away from your pictures.  It should create a mood that helps bring your story to life.

  • Conclude your video with a statement to the potential birth parents thanking them for taking the time to view your video.  You can share your desire to adopt and how open you want the relationship to be.

  • Let the potential birth parents know how they can reach your agency.

By creating an adoption profile video you are able to capture your personality and showcase who you are and what you have to offer a child.  You can set yourself apart in the eyes of potential birth parents. Through this adoption profile video you can tell your story in an engaging way and help the potential birth mother and birth father learn more about you as potential adoptive parents.  It is most important that you be yourself and let them see you are truly devoted to the adoption process.
