Introduction

Hello, and welcome! We are Mike and Bryan. We recognize that it takes a lot of courage and compassion to consider adoption, and we respect and honor you for the sacrifice you’re making. If you choose us, we’ll give your child a lifetime of love, happiness, and puppy cuddles.

8Parenting Philosophy:

We will raise your child the same way we are raising our daughter: We will read to them every day, and we will give them everything they need to succeed in life. We can’t wait to share with them everything we love, and to take up new interests as they develop their own passions and hobbies. As they grow up, we will let them lead, encouraging them to become the person they want to be. We will encourage them to be independent: Our job as parents is to teach them to be capable, strong, and successful. At the same time, we will always be supportive: We will be at every one of their games, recitals, and plays.

One of our favorite quotes is: In a world where you can be anything, be kind. This is the virtue we live our lives by, and the virtue we are building our family around.

Our Family:

We met in college, nearly eight years ago, and we hit it off right away. We squeezed in dates between all-night study sessions and hours-long lab classes. We’ve always supported each other, whether it be with a laugh, an encouragement, or a home-baked good.

After graduate school, we rescued two dogs, three weeks apart from each other. Kovu, our nanny dog, is good for an infinite supply of kisses and cuddles. Riku, our arctic beauty, is the closest thing to a living stuffed animal that you’ll ever see. All of our nieces and nephews love them: They are the most friendly and loyal companions we could ask for.5

On Christmas 2015, Mike proposed to Bryan with a Lion King ornament. A little over a year later, we got married in an aquarium, surrounded by friends, family, penguins, and sea lions.

Last year, we adopted Remi, who is going to be an incredible older sister to your child. Her favorite hobbies include dancing and eating strawberries. We are raising her to be a strong and independently-minded woman, and it is the privilege of our lives to get to come home to her every day.

Our Home:

We live in upstate New York, surrounded by gorgeous lakes and stunning waterfalls. We can only see one neighbor from our backyard, but we’re still only five miles from downtown, and just three miles from the waterfront. We love where we live because we have a little bit of country, and a little bit of city. We live in a five-bedrooms house with a large, fenced-in backyard that dogs and kids can safely run around and play in.

Meet Mike, The Scientist

I’m always curious about the world around me, and I’m always trying to find ways to make it better. I’ve spent a lot of time working with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program to help build up my local community, because I believe we should all strive to make the world a little bit happier and a little bit more whole.

I’m a healthcare data scientist engaged in cancer research: Every day, I analyze patients’ medical records to determine what treatments and drugs would give them the best chance of a full recovery. I love my job because I find it rewarding: My work adds years to people’s lives, giving them more time to spend with their loved ones.10

Meet Bryan, The Medical Provider

My character has been shaped by the many roles I’ve had, from Eagle Scout to yoga teacher to biology lab instructor. Ultimately, I landed my dream job as a pediatric Physician Assistant, where every day I get to help babies, children, and teens stay healthy. I love going to work, where I get to see my patients grow and to help them make healthier choices year-after-year. I specifically chose to become a Physician Assistant so that I could have better hours that are more suitable for raising a family, allowing me to be a more active and present parent.

Outside of work, I love hiking, cooking, painting, gardening, rock climbing, and hanging out with friends. After long days, though, I really enjoy just lying on the couch watching Netflix and cuddling with the puppies or reading to our daughter. I love anything Harry Potter or Disney (Star Wars, Marvel, animated films with Stitch being my favorite).

Our Hobbies and Interests

We love the outdoors: We can’t wait to teach our children all about camping, gardening, and hiking. We’ll take them river-tubing and boat-riding, and we will teach them to appreciate and enjoy the great big world around them.4

We’re really into arts and crafts. We have regular art nights, where our friends and families come over to paint, crochet, cross-stitch, and otherwise be creative. We’ve even done a make-your-own-sushi night, which was delicious!

We have so many traditions we can’t wait to pass on. Each fall, we spend hours carving pumpkins and crafting our own Halloween costumes. Each winter, we create a giant gingerbread village with our families, which once got so big that it didn’t even fit on our dining room table! We’ve taken the go big option at every turn, and we can’t wait to pass that on.

Thank you:

When raising your child, we will honor you every day. We’ll teach them that adoption is not an act of rejection, but rather an act of love: You placed them in a loving home because you honestly believed that was what was best for them. We’ll tell them all about you, and about the noble sacrifice you made.

We hope to keep you in your child’s life, if that is something you’d want. We’re open to exchanging letters and photos, or to meeting up in-person, if you’re comfortable with that. We are happy to meet you where you are. More than anything else, we just want what’s best for your child. We will devote ourselves to that cause every day.

With all our hearts, Mike & Bryan
