Services for Birth Parents

Our agency’s caring adoption professionals understand that birth parents are making a loving plan for their child, and do the utmost to educate birth parents about all of their choices and support birth parents every step of the way, even after the child is born.  We can provide birth mothers and/or birth fathers who are considering making an adoption plan for their unborn child with the following services, at no cost to the birth parents (all expenses are supported by the adoption agency and adoptive parents):

  1. Counseling Services: All counseling at Family Connections is supportive and confidential. We understand that the right choice for you and your baby may be a difficult one and is very personal. We provide balanced, impartial counseling and support your right to make independent decisions.
  2. Education: The agency will provide you with education regarding your parenting and adoption options and provide you with support as you make choices for you and your child.
  3. Adoption Options: You have an array of choices when making an adoption plan and can design a plan that best meets your and your baby’s needs. You have the right to choose the type of adoption you wish for yourself and your child (e.g. confidential, semi-open, or open).
  4. Choosing an Adoptive Family: You choose the adoptive family you wish to place your child with.  Family Connections has qualified adoptive parents who are wanting and waiting to adopt a child.  To view the agency's current waiting families click here.
  5. Referral to Legal Services:Family Connections, Inc. believes strongly that every birth parent should be represented by a lawyer to make sure their rights are understood and protected. You choose your own lawyer. If you do not have a lawyer or need assistance finding a lawyer, Family Connections, Inc. will refer you to qualified lawyers in your community.
  6. Birth Mother Expenses; Referral to or Provision of Resources: If you need resources to support you through your pregnancy and post-delivery recovery, Family Connections, Inc. will help you secure the needed resources and may be able to provide financial assistance for pregnancy related expenses. New York State allows adoption agencies and adoptive parents to support birth parents' need for legal counsel, maternity clothes, housing, food, transportation, uncovered medical costs, and pre and post-adoption counseling services
  7. Referral to Medical Care:  If you need prenatal medical care and are unable to find a doctor, Family Connections, Inc. can help you find a qualified medical doctor who would be supportive and respectful of your adoption plan.
  8. Obtaining Health Insurance: If you have medical insurance, but have uncovered medical expenses (e.g. co-pays, uncovered medicines, etc.), the adoptive family you have chosen for your child will be responsible to pay for those expenses. If you do not have health insurance, Family Connections can help you obtain medical coverage.
  9. Building and Maintaining a Relationship with the Adoptive Family: If you wish for a relationship with the adoptive family, Family Connections will help you choose a family, get to know the family, and then have a relationship with the family post-adoption if you wish.
