Boy and girls  - Between 12 and 24 months of age - With the potential for normal growth and development (healthy) - With minor medical concerns (e.g. prematurity, prenatal exposure to smoking or alcohol)   **Adoptive families must meet the following criteria: ** - Heterosexual married couples only - Married for at least 3 years (only one previous marraige) - Ages 25 - 41 years old - No more than 4 children in the home prior to the adoption - Excellent physical health - no chronic illnesses, current medical  conditions, or history of disease - Body Mass Index (BMI) of 29.9 or less - No history of mental health issues or related counseling/hospitalizations and no current or past use of psychotropic medications - No history of arrest The **typical timeframe** for adopting from South Korea can vary.  The average waiting time it up to 15 months for the referral of a child.  The children generally arrive home 9 to 12 months from the time of referral acceptance. South Korea requires that the adoptive family **travel to the country** twice.  Once to appear in family court (approximately 5-7 days) and then again to obtain the child's Visa and bring the child home (approximately 5-7 days). **South Korea's Central Adoption Authority, the Ministry of Justice, has authorized U.S. adoption service providers to faciliate intercountry adoptions in South Korea; some of those agencies include:** 1.  Family & Children's Agency at [www.familyandchildrensagency.org](http://www.familyandchildrensagency.org) 2.  AAC Adoption & Family Network, Inc. at [www.aacadoption.com](http://www.aacadoption.com) 3.  Wide Horizons for Children at [www.whfc.org](http://www.whfc.org) Family Connections, Inc., an authorized New York State adoption agency that has achieved Hague Accreditation from the Council on Accreditation, provides [home study investigation](https://www.adoptfamilyconnections.org/i-want-to-adopt/home-study-services/) and post-adoption supervision services for families adopting internationally.  The agency would be honored to help your family adopt from South Korea.   We can work collaboratively with any international adoption placement agency of your choosing.  The Agency supports families throughout New York State including Syracuse, Binghamton, Elmira, Rochester, Albany, Utica, Watertown, New York City and all towns in between.
