adoption_12-9  Domestic adoption means the adoption of a child born in the United States by parents who live in the United States.  Family Connections, Inc. is an authorized New York State adoption agency that supports families who wish to adopt a child from the United States in all adoption options as detailed below:

Families wishing to adopt a child from the United States have options.

Domestic Infant Agency Adoption:  Families may choose to adopt an infant with the support of an authorized adoption agency.   Family Connections, Inc. is a New York State authorized adoption agency who places newborn infants with qualified adoptive families.  The Agency's Domestic Infant Placement Program provides the following services to families:

  • The Agency qualifies the adoptive family through a home study investigation process
  • The Agency assists the adoptive family with the development of family profiles (e.g. book profile, web profile, magazine profile, video profile) that are provided to potential birth families for consideration.
  • The Agency outreaches to potential birth families.
  • The Agency facilitates the matching process for the birth family and adoptive family.
  • The Agency assists the birth family and adoptive family in relationship building.
  • The Agency helps develop a hospital plan with the birth family, adoptive family and hospital.
  • The Agency accepts the surrender of the child and then places the child with the adoptive family.
  • The Agency supervises and supports the family after the baby has been placed in their home.
  • The Agency works collaboratively with attorneys to finalize the child's adoption.
  • The Agency ensures that any post adoption contact between the birth family and adoptive family occurs as agreed.
  • The Agency provides life-long support and guidances to the birth family and adoptive family.

Domestic Infant Private Adoption:  Families may choose to adopt an infant independent of an agency.  The adoptive family must complete a home study investigation and become pre-qualified through their local family court.  The adoptive family then markets themselves to potential birth parents and matches with a birth family on their own.  The adoptive family facilitates the adoption and attorneys complete the legal requirements for the adoption.  Family Connections, Inc. provides home study investigation services and post-placement supervision services to families who choose to adopt privately.

Domestic Public Foster-to-Adopt Adoption:  Families may choose to foster children and if the child's birth parents are unable to meet the requirements to have their child returned to them and the birth parents' rights are terminated by the court, then the foster parents may adopt the child.   Please know that the goal of foster care is to reunite the child with their birth parents.  Thus, families must understand that the majority of foster children are returned to their birth parents.  Families interested in adopting through the foster care system should contact their local county Department of Social Services.

Domestic Public Adoption:  Families may choose to adopt a child from the foster care system whose birth parents' rights have been terminated and the child's foster parents are not able or willing to adopt them.  Children are available throughout the country who are "freed" for adoption.  Many of these children are listed on the New York State Office of Children and Family Services photolisting or on www.adoptuskids.org.  Family Connections, Inc. supports families adopting in this manner by providing home study services, searching for available children, matching, and post-placement support and supervision.
